The essays collected in this book venture into various domains of philosophy, such as ontology and epistemology, anthropology and ethics, philosophy of history and history of philosophy, philosophy of religion and theory of the mystical, poetics and hermeneutics. For this author, philosophy and theology should not merely be kinds of specialized fields of expert knowledge but therapeutic skills which heal wounds and nurse the diseases of the contemporary civilization—curing us also at least from amnesia. The traces of the transcendent in the immanent are visible as constitutive moments of our existence.
A reader browsing through this book by Bogoljub Šijaković will find in it an atmosphere similar to the one awaiting a pilgrim on the Holy Mountain. As the title emphasizes, the book deals with “the presence of transcendence,” the absence of which is so acutely felt throughout the rest of our disoriented world. Šijaković is as unapologetic about his reverence for transcendence as the monks on the Mount Athos are.
